SUMMER IN PARKER

by Kimberly Reed July 05, 2017

I love what’s happening in Parker! As a resident for the last fifteen years, our town sure has grown up. After living in downtown Denver for several years, I had access to great shops, dining and cultural events but now we finally have a bit of that, right here in town. Thanks to the local business owners, the Parker Arts foundation, and the Parker Chamber of Commerce for creating a vibrant, new scene. They’ve developed an urban feel right here in town, without having to go into the city. Parker is now a hip little place, filled with all kinds of shops, restaurants, boutiques and activities. Experience it all this summer, from the farmer’s market, wine walks and art walks to the free movies and concerts in the parks. Don’t forget that the PACE Center has an awesome theatrical line up, too.

Every Sunday morning it begins, just a few hours after the sun rises and the crickets stop
chirping, residents fill into Mainstreet for the Parker Farmer’s Market, to buy local goods from pop-ups vendors, dotting the streets. Come and check out what the area growers are selling, from fruits and vegetables, like Palisade peaches and sweet corn, to vendors selling fresh dairy and baked goods. Shop the artisan wares, like handmade soaps and homemade treasures of every kind. With over one hundred vendors, you’ll be sure to find something you love. If it’s flowers you’re looking for, our tent is set up right outside the shop. Stop by and take a look at our pretty summer stems in various arrangements. The Parker Farmer’s Market is open from 8am-1pm, every Sunday, May through October.

Enjoy a summer night under the stars, as you and your friends taste a variety of wines and shop local during Parker’s Wine Walk. Stroll through town, see what the shops, boutiques and markets are selling and get to know the owners, all the while, with a glass of wine in hand. This is the only way to shop! For the cost of $15 per person, each participant receives a free wine glass, ten tasting coupons, plus a map of all the participating businesses. Parker’s Wine Walk is from 5pm-8pm, the last Friday of each month, starting in May and ending in October. You can purchase advanced tickets at www.parkerchamber.com or get tickets until 7pm the day of, on the corner of Mainstreet and Pikes Peak Drive.

Then, experience our town’s local art scene under the canopy of lights, during the first Friday Art Walk in Parker’s Creative District. Start the night with a wine tasting at Vines and meander through town checking out the newest art displays located at the galleries, studios and restaurants around town. Take in the art and culture, visit with local artists and learn about what inspires them to bring their imaginations to life. Participate in unique art demonstrations and listen to local music too. The Art Walk is the first Friday of every month from 4pm-7pm, June through September.

Who doesn’t love free movies and concerts in the parks? Pack a picnic, bring your lawn chairs and get ready to get down, with Chris Daniels and the Kings and the Nacho Men, to name a few! Get your groove on with the Free Summer Concert series at Discovery Park, hosted every Thursday night at 6pm by Parker’s Creative District. Go to www.parkercreativedistrict.org for a complete listing of concerts. The Parker Chamber of Commerce also hosts Movies in the Park for those of you looking for some quality family time. Grab your blankets, get your popcorn and get your seat in time for a free movie at dusk at O’Brien Park. There’s vendors, concessions, music and games for everyone. Check www.parkerchamber.com for movie listings.

You have no excuses. Get out here! Shop local, eat local and experience local. Parker’s got it goin’ on! When you’re out and about, swing by our shop and say “Hi!”. We’d love to help you bring the outside, inside with an array of bouquets from our collection.
